English: Atlantic Ocean (Feb. 23, 2005) – Sailors and Marines assigned to the color guard aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7) prepare to raise the American Flag during morning colors. The entire ship's crew assembled on the flight deck aboard Iwo Jima to mark the 60th anniversary of the flag raising atop Mount Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima. The Battle of Iwo Jima is considered by many to be the bloodiest battle in Marine Corps history, and the turning point in the Pacific Campaign of World War II.
