(Mar. 8, 2005) – The Washington Monument is framed between pillars adorned with oak and wheat bronze wreaths at the National World War II Memorial located on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. A 17-foot pillar and bronze wreath represents each State and U.S. territory from the time period. Established by the American Battle Monuments Commission, the memorial honors all military veterans of World War II, the citizens on the home front, the nation at large, and the high moral purpose and idealism that motivated the nation’s call to arms.
