English: Gulf of Mexico (Sept. 3, 2005) – Aviation Ordnanceman Airman Arthur Mitchell and Aviation Ordnanceman 3rd Class Andrew Blatchford run back to safety after hooking up relief supplies to a MH-60S Seahawk helicopter, headed for the amphibious assault ship USS Bataan (LHD 5). The ship departed Norfolk to join other military assets as part of Joint Task Force Katrina to bring much-needed supplies and relief efforts to Gulf Coast states ravaged by Hurricane Katrina. The Navy's involvement in the Hurricane Katrina humanitarian assistance operations is led by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in conjunction with the Department of Defense.
