English: New York (May 29, 2006) - Senior Chief Operations Specialist Livingston Tindal (center), assigned to the amphibious assault ship, USS Kearsarge (LHD 3), and local American Legion personnel and retired United States Marines unveil a memorial to the Battle of Soissons, fought in 1918, during Memorial Day activities held in the town of Pelham, New York. The memorial plaque was recently discovered in the basement of the City Hall where it had been stored for 64 years. Members of the town decided to clean up the original plaque and unveil it and place it in its rightful place during this Memorial Day ceremony. The memorial plaque was recently discovered in the basement of the City Hall where it had been stored for 64 years. Members of the town decided to clean up the original plaque and unveil it and place it in it's rightful place during this Memorial Day ceremony. Kearsarge Sailors and embarked Marines also participated in the annual Pelham Memorial Day parade during Fleet Week 2006. Pelham is the oldest town in Westchester County. Established in 1654. Fleet Week has been sponsored by New York City since 1984 in celebration of the United States sea service. The annual event also provides an opportunity for citizens of New York City and the surrounding Tri-State area to meet Sailors and Marines as well as witness first hand the latest capabilities of today's Navy and Marine Corps team. Fleet Week includes dozens of military demonstrations and displays, including public tours of many of the participating ships.
