English: Persian Gulf (June 14, 2006) - Lt. Cmdr. Ryan Smith, observes an F/A-18F Super Hornet, assigned to the Checkmates of Strike Fighter Squadron Two One One (VFA-211) prepare for an arrested landing aboard the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CVN 65). Enterprise and embarked Carrier Air Wing One (CVW-1) are currently deployed as part of a routine rotation of U.S. maritime forces in support of global war on terrorism as well as conducting Maritime Security Operations (MSO) in the region. Image title	060614-N-9742R-073Arabian Gulf (June 14, 2006)-- The arresting gear officer, Lieutenant Commander Ryan Smith, oversees the arresting gear and landing area on the flight deck of the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CVN 65) as an F/A-18F Super Hornet, attached to the "Checkmates" of Strike Fighter Squadron Two One One (VFA-211), comes in for a landing. In his hand, LCDR Smith holds a "pickle switch", which can be used to signal a wave off in the case of a fouled deck or other unsafe condition. The Enterprise Carrier Strike Group is currently deployed as part of a routine rotation of U.S. maritime forces in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, as well as conducting Maritime Security Operations (MSO) in the region. MSO helps set the conditions for security and stability in the maritime environment as well as complement the counterterrorism and security efforts of regional nations. MSO deny international terrrorists use of the maritime environment as a venue for attack or to transport personnel, weapons, or other material.
