Summary edit

Description The U.S. Navy heavy lift cranes USS Crilley (YHLC-1), left, and USS Crandall (YHLC-2) during operations to raise a sunken concrete cassion in the Suez Canal, in 1974. Ten wrecks were raised during "Operation Nimrod Spar". Both ships were built in 1942 in Germany as Energie and Ausdauer. They were leased by the United Nations to clear the Suez Canal in 1957 and later laid upon completion. Both were purchased by the U.S. Navy in 1967 at Bremerhaven, Germany, from Bugsier-, Reederei & Bergungs-AG, and assigned to Harbor Clearance Unit One at Naval Station Subic Bay, Philippines. Bugsier-, Reederei & Bergungs-AG also provided the crane ships Thor and Roland used in Operation Nimrod Spar.
