Summary edit

Description
English: According to NREL, all 50 states are capable of generating all of the electricity consumed in 2012 from solar power, and 38 states can from wind power. One state, Texas, is capable of generating all of the electricity consumed in the entire country in 2012 from wind power, and 32 states are each capable of doing that from solar power. The amount of energy available from each state varies, and based on the amount available, if 90% of our energy is from wind and solar in 2050, 18 states will be energy exporting states, and 30 will be energy importing states. Alaska and Hawaii are not included as they are assumed to be individually energy independent. Each can generate all of their energy from wind and from solar. NREL estimates that Washington DC could generate 22% of the electricity consumed in 2012, all from solar photovoltaics. NREL transmission visualization for 2050: [1]
