Description
English: An Expediency: a cartoon by Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro, published on A Paródia in 1903, satirising the preparations for the visit of King Edward VII to Lisbon: the statue of Joseph I of Portugal at Commerce Square (which was obstructed by an ephemeral pavilion built for the occasion) watches the parade instead from a rented balcony in Rua do Ouro in the company of the ladies of society.
Português: Um Expediente: um cartoon de Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro, publicado n'A Paródia em 1903, satirizando as preparações para a visita do rei Eduardo VII a Lisboa: a estátua de D. José na Praça do Comércio (que ficou parcialmente obstruída por um pavilhão efémero construído para a ocasião) assiste à passagem do cortejo a partir duma varanda alugada na Rua do Ouro na companhia de senhoras da primeira sociedade.
