このうち阪神側のほうは2022年春頃の大阪神ビル（阪神百貨店梅田店=低層階　この個所は2021年秋頃に先行完成予定）と新阪急ビルの一体化リニューアル完成後に、この2つの駅ビルの高層化により、阪急阪神東宝グループによる旗艦ビル「大阪梅田ツインタワーズ」としてリニューアルされる。阪急側がノース棟、阪神側はサウス棟。
サウス棟の一部にあたる新阪急ビルは阪急電鉄所有のオフィスビルだったが、鉄道駅の最寄りとしては阪神梅田駅と大阪市営地下鉄（現・大阪メトロ）西梅田駅寄りだった。同ビルは阪急電鉄が運営したショッピングモールの一つ「花の新阪急8番街」（地下1-2階）や屋上ビアガーデンなどがあった。
元々阪急と阪神は別会社だった。2006年に阪神電鉄の株式を投資会社である村上ファンドが保有したのち、経営再建の一環として阪急電鉄との友好TOB（株式公開買い付け）により経営統合を行い、2006年10月に阪神が阪急の傘下に置かれることになった。阪急神戸線・阪神本線（以上大阪梅田駅起点）・阪神なんば線（阪神としての起点駅大阪難波駅だが、阪神尼崎駅・西九条駅を経由して近鉄奈良線の近鉄奈良駅とを直通運転している）とは地域的に一部重複区間があるが、阪急神戸線は主に内陸・山間部、阪神本線は大阪湾・淀川などの臨海部を走っており事実上棲み分けができている。
また、阪急阪神東宝グループにおいての鉄道事業はこの他に、阪急・阪神と神戸電鉄・山陽電気鉄道とのハブ（接続路線）を担う神戸高速鉄道、阪急宝塚線と接続する能勢電鉄、大阪メトロ（市営地下鉄）御堂筋線と相互直通運転する北大阪急行電鉄（以上阪急傘下）を連結子会社として、また神戸電鉄（阪急傘下）を持ち分法適用子会社、山陽電鉄は阪急阪神東宝グループの直接の子会社ではないが、阪神電鉄の全額出資子会社として運用されている。
