Summary edit

Description

The intersection of Milwaukee, North, and Damen is being repaved today as part of the North Avenue streetscaping. They've chewed up the asphalt to uncover the old paving-stones and streetcar tracks (and finally vanquishing those last potholes, as the rest of Milwaukee has been gloriously repaved recently). Street railways ran on Milwaukee, under horse, cable, and electric traction, for nearly 90 years, from 1863 until 11 May 1952.

Oddly, they don't bother really closing any streets off while they repave. I wonder if we taxpayers pay more in workers comp that way.
