  • Der Gedenkkopf wurde dem Museum von Theodor Rautenstrauch geschenkt. Wie er in seinen Besitz kam ist noch unbekannt

  • vermutlich ab Feb. 1897 durch ein Mitglied der sogenannten britischen Strafexpedition geraubt
  • o.D. - 29.11.1901 Theodor Rautenstrauch (1873-1907) Köln
  • Seit 20.11.1901 RJM Köln, Schenkung von Theodor Rautenstrauch
  • seit 29.04.22 bis 15.12.22 in der Ausstellung „I MISS YOU. Über das Vermissen, Zurückgeben und Erinnern" im RJM präsentiert.
Dieser Gedenkkopf ist einer lyoba gewidmet, der leiblichen Mutter eines künftigen Oba. Eingeführt wurde der Titel der lyoba im 16. Jahrhundert von Oba Esigie. Oba Esigie verlieh seiner Mutter neben dem Titel auch viele Privilegien und Statussymbole. Unter anderem unterhielt sie eine eigene Armee zur Unterstützung ihres Sohnes. Nach ihrem Tod wurde zu ihrem Andenken ein Kopf gegossen und ein Altar errichtet. Diese Tradition wurde bei den folgenden lyoba fortgeführt.lm Vergleich zu älteren lyoba Gedenkköpfen ist dieser weniger realistisch in der Darstellung. Ein hoher Kragen aus Korallenperlen reicht bis zum Mund. Die gebogene konische Frisur wird von einem gitterartigen Netz aus Korallenperlen bedeckt. (nach: Flora Edouwaye S.
