Summary edit

Description
English: Upper Rhyolitic Tuff Formation in Wales.
  • As seen from Llyn Bach, the formidable cliff of Clogwyn y Person shows a very clear boundary between the Bedded Pyroclastic Formation and the Upper Rhyolitic Tuff Formation.
  • Immediately above the lake shore, typical outcrop of the Bedded Pyroclastic Formation is succeeded by layers of hyaloclastite (basaltic glass produced by quenching lava in water) and basalt flows (dark layer above scree).
  • The Upper Rhyolitic Tuff Formation overlies the irregular surface of the basalt flows, and represents the last eruptive outburst in the evolving Ordovician Snowdon caldera.
