The average freight rate in this terri-tory to Salt Lake for livestock is $35 a car, rangingfrom $20, the charge from Utah valley, 50 milesaway, to $70 from Shoshone, Ida., 250 miles away.Rates from the same points to the Missouri Riverpacking houses range from $130 to $155, and toDenvere, from $100 to $120 a car. For meatsshipped from the East to points within this territorythe railroads exact $1.18 to $1.40, local freight add-ed, while from Salt Lake the rate is 65 cents topoints within 200 miles. These figures will holdgood on all commodities. Of the 25,000 tons of sugarmanufactured in Utah last year the bulk of the 15,000tons sent out of the State was taken by Utahs trib-utary country. Of the 100,000 pairs of shoes made inUtah last year a very large proportion were sold inthe same area, but the Utah factories were unableto turn out enough shoes to supply more than one-tenth of the number of pairs purchased. City and County Building.Saltair Pavilion. is entering upon a cycle of stupendous expansion.The opening of the Goldfield, Kawich, Bullfrog, ElDorado canyon and Cane Springs districts in South-ern Nevada and the revival of mining in Eastern Ne-vada and Southern and Western Utah accompaniedby railroad building, the reclamation program inUtah, Idaho and Wyoming, which will double theirrigated areas of all three states within a few years,the opening of the Uintah Indian reservation, theexpansion of dry farming and the completion ofmill, smelter and mining projects in Utah which willmore than quadruple the present output of metals,within two years will create for Utah a greater mar-ket by far than she is now able to take care of. Exports of Manufactured Products.—Five brew-eries shipped 19.7 of their total product, value $673,-837.58, out of the State in 1904.
