English: Distorted panoramic photo of old wooden seaside buildings, wooden store houses, signposts and other structures in the harbour of Vardø, a small town located in the far east of Finnmark, Norway. On roofs and ledges are seagulls on nests, and several buildings are stained with bird droppings. The Brotkorb boathouses from the 19th century, the oldest preserved boathouses in the region, house the small Pomor Museum. In front of the museum is the sculpture "Rising from the Sea" by Svein Magnus Håvarstein (1989), in the background is Vardø church (1958). The picture was taken on a summer day with fog drifting in from the ocean.

The Norwegian Copyright in Literary, Scientific and Artistic Works Act, in section 31 says that works of art and photographic works may be depicted when they are permanently mounted or located in or near a public place or a publicly accessible passage through some place. However, this does not apply when the work is clearly the main subject and the reproduction is exploited commercially. The same section says buildings may be freely depicted.
Since Commons requires that all images be free for commercial use, buildings are the only copyrighted works in Norway for which the FOP exception applies for Commons. See COM:CRT/Norway#Freedom of panorama for more information.English ∙ norsk bokmål ∙ +/− |
