| Description | U.S. Navy pilots of Fighting Squadron 10 (VF-10) "Grim Reapers" aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CV-6) off Guadalcanal, in 1942 or early 1943. Squadron commanding officer LCDR Jimmy Flatley kneels in front, fifth from the left. ENS Whitey Feightner is also in front, second from the left. LT JG Butch Voris, founder of the "Blue Angels" aerobatics team, is second from the left, second row. LT Stanley "Swede" Vejtasa is second from the right in the second row. LT Mac Kilpatrick is first on the left in the back row behind Voris. Flatley commanded VF-10 until 13 February 1943 when he was relieved by LCDR William R. "Killer" Kane. VF-10 was assigned to the Big E from 16 October 1942 to 10 May 1943. |
