Notes
  • Significance: With its general "L" plan created by two gabled wings placed perpendicular to each other, as well as its main entryway sheltered by a prominent front porch with Tuscan columns and hipped roof, the Bernke House is a good example of the Gabled Ell form of vernacular architecture as discussed in Cultural Resource Management in Wisconsin. Those attributes, in addition to its clapboard siding, sense of overall integrity and location within an operating farm, combine to make the structure a locally unique, architectural artifact.
