English: Vale of Belvoir, Leicestershire. Taken from the canal bridge on the edge of Redmile, this shows the gentle undulation of the landscape as you look across the Vale from SE to NW. Settlement took place on the higher ground to avoid the winter waterlogging of the clay soil in the "valleys". The white house on the higher ground in this case is in SK7835 and is all of 50m above sea level! |
