DescriptionValewood Farm House - geograph.org.uk - 303049.jpg |
English: Valewood Farm House This is a very old Wealden house. It has stone ground floor, tile-hung upper floor, and tall brick chimneys. The lane is on the Sussex Border Path.
[Additional comment by Nicholas Mann] - This is indeed an old farmhouse. My research in the 70s revealed it was a hall house with crown post built to a high quality in the mid 14th century. Not only is the original structure almost entirely preserved (amidst the mid 17th century standard additions of chimney and floors) but some of the original wattle and daub remains in place at the rear where a lean to was added. Horse hair was added to the daub mix. |
