Description
English: Brinkman en Van der Vlugt, Van Nelle Fabriek, Rotterdam, 1927-1930 Collectie NAi, BROX 5t2960

NAI Collection, TENT n198

A common or everyday factory for processing coffee, tea and tobacco was out of the question. With this modern factory, the architects and their client C. van der Leeuw created a healthy working environment for the employees. They created a social utopia by designing a factory bathed in daylight, which was a novelty in those days, with sanitary facilities and a clean and functional support of the work process. The communal solidarity was embodied in sports facilities and a diversity of clubs. The welfare of the factory worker was not just important from an economic standpoint, but stemmed from social responsibility as well.
