Description

The emblem of Uttar_Pradesh depicts the confluence of the Ganges and Yamuna rivers at Allahabad, a pair of Matsya fish to represent the former Muslim rulers of Oudh and a bow and arrow to represent the Hindu deity Rama.

The emblem was originally designed in 1916 for the then 'United Provinces of Agra and Oudh' and continued in use following Indian Independence in 1947.
