Cette image a été prise autour du parc national de la pendjari nord du paysEnglish: It is one of the smallest old world vultures with a length of 70 cm and an average mass of 2.12 kg. He has a pink stripped head and a greyish cap. It is quite uniformly dark brown. It has wide wings for gliding and short tail. It is a weak species compared to most vultures.
It is a scavenger, feeding mainly on dead animals and garbage it spotted flying over the savannah and around human dwellings, including landfills and slaughterhouses. He often travels in a troop and is very abundant. In much of its territory, there are always many visible high in the sky at any time during the day. He is generally not afraid of humans and often meets around homes. He is sometimes referred to as the garbage collector by the locals. In some cultures it is forbidden to eat necrophagous animals whose vulture is part of it. It nests in a nest made of branches placed in a tree (often a palm tree) in a large part of Africa, laying an egg. The population is mostly sedentary. If he is disturbed while in his nest, he squeals. This image was taken around the North Punjari National Park of the country |
