Description
English: Veena, is a carnatic and hindustani music instrument, origin: That is about 3000 years ago, region: India, material: Wood of Jack fruit tree, Vaagai tree, bottle guord. Rig and Sama Vedas mention about the Veena. Tirugnanasambandar mentions about veena in his Kolaru Tirupadhigam. Though the instrument is ancient, it attained its current form during the reign of Tanjore's King Ragunathar in 17th Century. The Tanjore veena has acquired GI tag also. Veena is India's national music instrument.
