Description
Italiano: Francesco Maria della Rovere. Secondo una antica ipotesi non suffragata da prove certe, il dipinto raffigura Francesco Maria Della Rovere, nato nel 1490 e Duca di Urbino fino alla morte nel 1538: la spada d'onore che il personaggio impugna alluderebbe alla sua fama di condottiero. Il ritratto, databile intorno al 1530, Х stato assegnato al Catena con molte riserve, dopo che la critica ha fatto successivamente i nomi di Raffaello (in antico) e di vari artisti veneziani del primo `500 (in particolare, e recentemente, di Bartolomeo Veneto). E' uno degli esemplari piЫ alti della ritrattistica veneziana derivata dalla maturitЮ di Giovanni Bellini, ormai libera da schematismi ma non ancora pervasa dello spirito trionfale di Tiziano.
