« Bâtie par Eiffel en 1868 la gare de Verdun transformée en hôpital ordinaire, évacua de 1916 à 1918 des milliers de blessés. Elle fut le point de départ, le 10 novembre 1920 du train qui emporta vers Paris la dépouille du soldat inconnu qui repose à jamais sous l'Arc de Triomphe. »
English: Verdun train station (Meuse, France), commemorative plaque:
«Built by Eiffel in 1868, Verdun train station, transformed in regular hospital, evacuated thousands of injured people between 1914 and 1916. It was the starting point, on November 11, 1920, of the train to Paris which brought the Unknown Soldier remains, who rests for ever under the Arc de Triomphe.»
