Summary edit

Description Research in Pennsylvania and other states has demonstrated that a native fungus, Vn selectively kills Ailanthus trees. The particular variety used in this test specifically targets Ailanthus. The fungus resides in forest soil. In 2012, this same native fungus was found in dying Ailanthus trees in Pike County and in 2014 in dying Ailanthus within Monroe County. The fungus attacks the water conducting tissue of the tree. It clogs its water lines. Infected trees start wilting as early as two week. Trees typically die within a summer growing season. The fungus moves from infected to healthy trees through the grafting or intermingling of root systems. This is the primary method of movement.
