DescriptionVictory in Highbury - geograph.org.uk - 614875.jpg |
English: Victory in Highbury The bronze figure of Victory on the Boer War Memorial at the southern end of Highbury Fields was made in 1903 by the sculptor Sir Edgar Bertram Mackennal, the first Australian artist ever to be knighted. It represents the kind of triumphalism, standing as she does over the weapons and uniform of the foe, that was later to be superseded by more sombre memorials, but of its kind it is a noteworthy piece. |
