Description
English: An Andean Lake Vanishes, Chile/Argentina November 20, 2016 & January 11, 2017
  • Sometime between December 30, 2016, and January 4, 2017, a small glacial lake in Patagonia disappeared. The lake—near the snout of the Viedma Glacier—drained when material damming the lake eroded away. Shortly after the lake drained, part of the Viedma Glacier collapsed into the dry lake bed (image right).
