Description
English:
View of the large courtyard at Mission San Juan Capistrano, Orange County, ca.1900
Photograph a view of the large courtyard at Mission San Juan Capistrano, Orange County, ca.1900. Rocks and wild grass sparsely cover the squarish courtyard. An arcade forms a square perimeter around the courtyard. The dilapidated mission buildings stand beyond the arcades. Much of the roof structure of the arcade has deteriorated or is non-existent. "Father Junipero Serra founded Mission San Juan Capistrano in 1776, which is known as the Jewel of the Missions. It is renowned for its beautiful courtyard gardens and legendary 'Return of the Swallows' on March 19 of each year." -- unknown author.
