Français : Epitomé ou extrait abrégé des dix livres d'architecture de Marc Vitruve Pollion, par Jean Gardet et Dominique Bertin, 1556-1559. Deuxième version française du traité de Vitruve, quatrième ouvrage en France à utiliser la technique de la taille-douce, cette édition affiche l'ambition et les limites de l'imprimerie toulousaine de la Renaissance, confrontée à de difficiles insertions d'images dans le texte. Le projet, inachevé, proposait de manière inédite un texte illustré, résumé et en partie commenté afin de rendre son contenu plus accessible aux artisans.
English: Epitome or abridged extract of the Ten Books of Architecture by Marcus Vitruvius Pollio, by Jean Gardet and Dominique Bertin, 1556-1559. This second French version of the Vitruvius' treatise, and the fourth work in France to use the technique of intaglio engraving, this edition demonstrates the ambition and limitations of the Toulouse printing during the Renaissance era, grappling with challenging image insertions within the text. The unfinished project uniquely aimed to present an illustrated, summarized, and partially annotated text to make its content more accessible to artisans.
Español: Epitome o extracto abreviado de los Diez Libros de Arquitectura de Marco Vitruvio Polión, por Jean Gardet y Dominique Bertin, 1556-1559. La segunda versión francesa del tratado de Vitruvio, y la cuarta obra en Francia que utiliza la técnica del grabado en hueco, esta edición muestra la ambición y limitaciones de la impresión en Toulouse durante la época del Renacimiento, lidiando con desafiantes inserciones de imágenes en el texto. El proyecto inacabado tenía como objetivo presentar un texto ilustrado, resumido y parcialmente comentado para hacer que su contenido fuera más accesible a los artesanos.
