| Description |
English: W.I.S.E. (Oriel Chambers) The Wilberforce Institute for the Study of Slavery and Emancipation (W.I.S.E.). This is a research institute and part of the University of Hull, created in 2005 / 2006 as a joint venture between Hull City Council and Hull University in preparation for the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the Slave Trade in the former British Colonies. The building stands in the Museums Quarter of Hull, adjacent to Wilberforce House, the birthplace of William Wilberforce and the leader of the parliamentary campaign for the abolition of slavery. The photograph was taken in Gandhi Way, formerly known as George Yard. |
