This ladle belonged to a woman who was chosen by her village as the most hospitable and hard-working. It represented her high status when she used it to serve community members and guests during the important feasts following dance festivals. This object refers to agricultural fertility as well as human reproduction, a concept that is enhanced when the ladle becomes "impregnated" with the rice that is being served.
