English: Le 10 août 1944, une patrouille de soldats de l'infanterie canadienne The Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada de la 6th Brigade de la 2nd Canadian Inf. Div. descend dans la carrière des Aucrais située à Haut-Mesnil.
Le premier soldat est équipé d'un Bren, mais il n'y a pas de chargeur banane engagé, les distances de combat ne sont pas respectées ; certainement une "action" spécialement refaite pour le photographe, à cette époque les films n'avaient pas une grande sensibilité et il fallait bien préparer les prises de vues. Ce hameau é été libéré le 8 août, dans le cadre de " Operation Totalize " par The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders of Canada-Princess Louise's de la 10th Inf. Brigade de la 4th Canadian Armoured Div. Dans les galeries de la carrière des Aucrais, les allemands ont stockés du matériel (voir les canons sur la p004603), et une maquette de V2 à l'échelle 1 avec un chariot de transport du missile. Le 14 août, une erreur d'interprétation de signaux de fumée, fait que les bombardiers lourds du Bomber Command larguent leurs bombes sur les canadiens et les polonais à Haut-Mesnil faisant 400 victimes dont 65 morts. photo presque identique à la p004600 |
