English: Carved, wooden insignia decoration in "coat of arms" style for MTB-619 (1942) or MTB-717 (1944), British built WW2 Norwegian Navy (Den kongelige norske marine) motor torpedo boats (motortorpedobåter), both nicknamed "Jøssingen". "Jøssing" was a Norwegian Anti-Nazi/Pro-British nickname in German occupied Norway during World War II from 1941 on. The emblem shows a bearded "nisse" ("goblin") wearing "nisselue" (red knitted cap), as a national resistance symbol of the Norwegian people, riding on a torpedo in the waves.
Cropped photo taken on March 31st, 2019, from the exhibitions at the Norwegian Army Museum (Forsvarsmuseet) in Oslo, Norway. No known copyright restrictions. |
