His natural form returns andthey bind him and start for the upper earth. Thescene changes again to the mountain summit. SCENE IV— Same as Scene II Wotan and Loge enter, dragging the helplessAlberich, who is beside himself with rage. Theydemand that he give them his hoarded store ofgold as the price of his freedom. He reluctantlyobeys and summons the Nibelungs, who instantlyswarm up from below carrying the hoard. Hethen asks to be set free, but Wotan demands alsothe Ring. Alberich is horrified, but is finallycompelled to add it to the pile of gold. Hethen sings his bitter and ironical air, Bin ich nun painted Br echter frd ?
