Description
English: Coat of arms of Wattenscheid, Germany, 1937-1974. The city of Wattenscheid became part of Bochum in 1975.
Deutsch: "Im gespaltenem Schild vorn in Rot einen silbernen (weißen) Herzschild, das Feld überdeckt von einer goldenen (gelben), achtstrahligen Lilienhaspel; hinten in Gold (Gelb) einen in drei Reihen zu je fünf Feldern rot und silbern (weiß) geschachten Balken, und zwar oben an der Teilungslinie mit einem roten Feld beginnend." Das Wappen basiert auf einem alten Siegel der Stadt, welches die Schutzpatronin, die heilige Gertrud, mit dem Wappenschild in der Hand darstellt. Bis 1332 gehörte Wattenscheid zum Herzogtum Kleve (Lilienhaspel) und dann zur Grafschaft Mark (Schachbalken).
