| Description |
English: The Times Building, 205 Pennsylvania Avenue West, Warren, Pennsylvania, July 2022. Built in 1925, this two-story structure exemplifies the so-called "Stripped Classical" style then popular for use in office, commercial and institutional buildings such as this. Intrinsic to the style are Neoclassical decorative elements appended to a simple, almost proto-Modernist main structure, which here come in the form of a tetrastyle Doric temple front flanked at the base of the pediment by a simple projecting cornice. The red brick façade, splayed lintels atop the windows, and Gibbs surrounds framing the main entrance and arched window above suggest a Colonial Revival influence, also a popular aesthetic of the era. The building was constructed for the Warren Times-Mirror newspaper, which moved its office from down the block at 225 Pennsylvania, and remains home to its merged successor, the Times-Observer. |
