Deutsch: Der Weiße Saal wurde von Eosander von Göthe für den König Friedrich I. am Ende der Großen Galerie als eine neue Kapelle, über eine große Treppe erreichbar, geplant.
Dessen Sohn, Friedrich Wilhelm I., ließ nach dem Tod seines Vaters die Arbeiten aus Kostengründen 1713 sofort einstellen. 1728 veranlasste Friedrich Wilhelm I. dann für den Empfang des polnischen Königs und sächsischen Kurfürsten August dem Starken den Ausbau zum Festsaal. An den Wänden wurde ein weiterer Teil des Silberschatzes zur Schau gestellt. August Stüler gestaltete im Jahre 1844 den Saal für König Friedrich Willhelm IV. vollständig neu. Nach 1892 wurde der Weiße Saal von Ernst von Ihne abermals verändert, auf eine Höhe von etwa 13 Meter gebracht und durch eine in den Schlosshof hineingeschobene Galerie erweitert. In diesem größten Saal des Schlosses wurden nicht nur Hofbälle abgehalten, sondern auch regelmäßig die Sitzungsperioden des Deutschen Reichstages eröffnet. Der Weiße Saal war nach seinem letzten Umbau ein repräsentativer Abschluss der Paradekammern. |
