Description |
English: On this day in 1899 was the first excursion train on the White Pass & Yukon Railroad! By the end of July the following year, WP&YR had reached Whitehorse, the capital of Yukon. This engineering feat would become the main mode of travel into Alaska's interior for decades to follow. Photo courtesy of J.B. Prather, The Gold Fields of the Klondike, 1899 (KLGO9715 TO-68).
