The goal of the platform ArgentiNat is to encourage people from Argentina to connect with nature, gathering biodiversity data in a collaborative fashion.

English: The goal of the platform ArgentiNat is to encourage people from Argentina to connect with nature, gathering biodiversity data in a collaborative fashion. Open data from this platform can be incorporated into GBIF, an open international initiative to share biodiversity information. ArgentiNat also includes links to Wikipedia articles for information about species. Articles on native Latin American species are scarce, most of them being stubs, many lacking pictures. We saw the opportunity of joining forces to improve the Spanish Wikipedia and reach out to new people who could contribute to ArgentiNat and GBIF.
Español: El objetivo de la plataforma ArgentiNat es alentar a las personas de Argentina a conectarse con la naturaleza, a la vez que se recolectan datos de biodiversidad de manera colaborativa. Los datos abiertos de la plataforma pueden ser incorporados a GBIF, una iniciativa abierta e internacional que busca colectar y compartir datos de biodiversidad. ArgentiNat también se vincula a los artículos de las especies presentes en Wikipedia. Los artículos de las especies nativas de América Latina son escasos, muchos son esbozos, muchos no tienen imagen. Vimos una oportunidad de juntar nuestras experiencias para mejorar la Wikipedia en Español y alcanzar a nuevas personas que pudieran contribuir a ArgentiNat y GBIF. |
