DescriptionWild Horses of Placitas.jpg | This morning, Christmas day, they were a few hundred yards away. There was a young colt, probably not much past newborn stage, that you can't see in this shot. It must be a hard life this time of year. There are now well over a hundred "wild" horses in the area. They are the source of some controversy. They eat the wild grass faster than it can renew itself, which will lead to erosion problems. Some local people put out water for them, while others put up fences to keep them out. The BLM doesn't have money to round them up, and even if they did, there is no place to take them except a slaughter house. Meanwhile, the population grows in time. | ||
