Description
Christopher Friedenreich Hage (1759-1849) married Arnette Christiane Just (1778-1866) in 1796. In 1849, their son Alfred Hage commissioned Marstrand to make a double portrait of the pair, which is now at Nivaagaard Museum. In preparation, Marstrand made studies of them both, although Arnette Hage is seen in profile in the finished work. See "Other versions". The lot contained both portraits.
