Description
English: In this ‘two-part’ episode an English ‘Indiaman’ (merchant ship of the English East India Company, flying its flag with red and white stripes) is attacked by three Spanish pirate ships (flying the Burgundian flag).

This second painting in the series shows the surrender of the principal Spanish ship, the ‘Sancte Domingo’, while the others (including the 'Sancte Michal 1656') make off damaged in the distance. It is dated 1682 on the front; a date of 1675 appears on the reverse of the canvas; this is a re-lining and may therefore have been copied from an original inscription. It is possible that the artist in this recorded the date at which the painting was commenced.
