Summary edit

Description
English: William Kissam Vanderbilt II, great-grandson of “Commodore” Cornelius Vanderbilt, began building his 43-acre "Eagle’s Nest" estate in Centerport, Long Island, New York, in 1910 and completed it in 1936. The 24-room Spanish-Revival mansion was designed by the architects Warren & Wetmore, who had designed Grand Central Terminal for Cornelius Vanderbilt’s New York Central Railroad. Upon his death in 1944, W.K. Vanderbilt left his estate, mansion and museum to Suffolk County, which opened it to the public in 1950.
