IrfanView has a function where the quality of a jpg image which shall be stored can be observed in a preview window before actually storing it. Thus, one can enter the jpg quality value/number (75 in the picture) or choose a file size to be reached after storing, and in the preview window one sees the image quality which will result. Thereby, a zoom factor can be entered (in the picture, 100 %, so no zoom) so that one can judge the quality in detail. The image used as an example is from Wikimedia Commons. Useful hint to the function: The preview function has to be activated in the JPG/GIF save options menu/tick box which appears when choosing to save an image and choosing the jpg format below the file name field. In the tick box, it is one of the last lines (in ver 4.60) and has the description "Show preview dialog (during saving, adjust quality)".
