Description
English: Women's jewellery from the cemetery of Lesencetomaj-Piroskereszt
  • Veszprém County, Hungary

At present the grave field of Lesencetomaj-Piroskereszt is the sole large necropolis of Keszthely culture that has been dug and documented in accordance with modern archeological criteria. Up to now, 1737 burials have been archeologically documented; a total of 1790 graves are preserved. Currently known are the southern, eastern, and western boundaries of the burial ground. In a heretofore unique way, the finds here make it possible to trace the the development of certain artifact types (particularly the shape of earrings) that are characteristic of Keszthely culture.

  • Photographed while on display from 22 August 2008 to 11 January 2009 in the exhibition "Die Langobarden. Das Ende der Völkerwanderung" at the Rheinisches LandesMuseum Bonn. On loan from the Laczkó Dezső Múzeum, Veszprém.
