Description |
English: A four-sided wooden post marks a location surrounded by trees. Devils Island Light Station landscape. This wooden marker may have been the location of the original wooden light tower at Devils Island. The first tower was constructed in 1891. The temporary wood structure was replaced in 1898, when a steel light tower that was constructed elsewhere was shipped to Devils Island. The Keeper's House was built at the same time as the wooden tower, because there was not enough funding to support permanent construction of both and this allowed the light station to begin operating sooner.
