Description
English: Work on the railway line south of Limpenhoe Hill. Whilst some of the workers are still busy fitting the last fishplates to join the lengths of rails, and everybody is waiting for more sand and stones to arrive > 1754217 before the tamper which is due shortly can start doing its job of compacting the trackbed, a team of Network Rail safety inspectors > 1754339 has arrived at Reedham station > 1754214. Walking up and down the line in the company of one of the foremen they make sure that all work has carried out according to standard and complies with current safety rules and regulations. A short distance further to the south-west the tamper is ready to commence work. It can be seen at right, passing class 66 diesel locomotive 66713 which can be seen parked to the left of it. The line between Reedham and Cantley is closed over the weekend whilst a new track is being laid > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1753536. The old rails and sleepers have been removed > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1751738. They were replaced over night by a new track. Diesel locomotives such as the low emission Class 66725 'Sunderland' > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1753545 have brought the required materials such as rails, sleepers, sand and crushed stone ballast to the section being presently worked on. The trains have also brought a crane, a digger that can move on rails > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1754244 and a JCB. The men have been working day and night so as not to disrupt rail traffic for any longer than necessary and portable lights positioned along the lineside illuminated the track at night.
