| Description |
English: The World War I memorial at State Street Park in Medina, New York, as seen at dusk on a snowy day in January 2022. Established in 1916 on six acres of was once the sumptuous estate of local attorney and political figure Silas M. Burroughs, the park has as its centerpiece a memorial dedicated in 1935 by the local American Legion post "in honor of our departed comrades in the World War, 1917-18". Fronted by a plaque and flanked by the flags of the United States, Britain and France is a rare and historic, six-ton B.L. 60 Pounder British field gun that saw extensive service during said war, firing off over 4,000 rounds over its operational lifespan. The artillery piece was rededicated in 2019 after a thorough 14-month restoration process. |
