Certainly, it was the most remarkable yacht race ever sailed, whether as regards the length and nature of the course, the season of the year, the amount of money involved, or the result, and therefore, I think I shall be justified in giving a more minute description of this race than I have been able to of any other within the limits of this article. For it was this race which lifted American yachting to a level with any in the world, and placed the New York club on an equality with the Royal Yacht Squadron of Great Britain.
