Original caption: Ye Olde Towne Mille at Main and Mill Streets in New London, Connecticut. Founded and built by John Winthrop, later governor of the colonies. The establishment of a mill was of prime importance, therefore, on the 10th day of November, 1650, a town meeting was held to arrange a system of cooperation with Mr. Winthrop in establishing a mill to grind corn and meal for the little colony.
